Beck The Anthem - D.C. Concert reviews
Storm Large and the Symphony?
We arrived in time to take in the very diverse crowd, beating the dimming lights, ready for a crazy sounding combination of musical styles and personalities that I eagerly anticipated witnessing firsthand, without really knowing what to expect.
In a nice dress with jewelry flashing in the lights, Storm came out, her rocker self not visible except for the tattoo across her exposed back. She mostly "behaved" as she was instructed, though where sexual harassment of a conductor falls in regard to that edict, I don't know. But it doesn't matter, as Gregory Vajda seemed to love it (who wouldn't?).
The melding of Storm's voice, piano, and drums, along with the Beck, worked very well. The alternative take on recognized songs, the incorporation of local musical talents, and the musical story-ish line whirled together into an intoxicating ride that ended all too soon.
